The afternoon brings visits to the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic and the beautiful Kandy Lake, with an optional evening of traditional Kandyan dance to complete an atmospheric first day in the hill country.

Botanical Gardens & Gems in Kandy

Explore the magnificent Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya – home to a collection of exotic orchids, towering bamboo groves and historic palm avenues – before visiting Kandy’s celebrated gem museums and local handicraft workshops. Scenic viewpoints overlooking the city and an optional Ayurvedic spa treatment round off a full and rewarding day in the Kandyan highlands.

Nuwara Eliya Tea Country

Drive through spectacular mountain landscapes to Nuwara Eliya, stopping at the Pedro Tea Factory for a guided tour of Ceylon tea production from plantation to cup. Stroll around Gregory Lake, admire the colonial architecture of ‘Little England’, visit the Nuwara Eliya market and settle into your historic hill-country hotel or plantation bungalow as the cool mountain evening descends.

Scenic Train to Ella

Board the celebrated scenic mountain railway at Nanu Oya station for one of the world’s great train journeys, a slow, breathtaking passage through tea estates, misty mountain passes, arching viaducts and small hill-country villages to the charming highland town of Ella. Arrive to visit the iconic Nine Arch Bridge and enjoy a relaxed evening in Ella’s cafes with panoramic mountain views.

Ella Hike, Ravana Falls & Colombo

Begin with a morning hike to Little Adam’s Peak for sweeping views across Ella’s valley and the distant southern plains, then visit the picturesque Ravana Falls before an afternoon drive back to Colombo.
